Josephine C. Wittenauer, 83, of Columbia, IL passed away September 26, 2018, in St. Louis, MO. She was born April 24, 1935, to Julius & Mildred (nee Frisch) Kuehner, who preceded her in death.
Josephine led a full life and dedicated herself to many organizations. She obtained her Master’s in Business, worked at Southwestern Bell and then in retirement did substitute teaching for
many years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Council of Women; The Red Hat Ladies; a life member of the Columbia, Illinois Sister Cities; the Southern Illinois Coordinator of Sister Cities International State Coordinator; and was on the Board of Director’s for Waterloo’s annual Porta Westfalica Parade.
Josephine was fortunate enough to travel. In her travels she visited her beloved sister city of
Gedern, Germany almost annually, visited Mother Teresa in Texas in 1976, and was able to see Pope John Paul II in Chicago in 1979.
But most of all Josephine loved her God and her family. Every weekend you could find her in
church dressed to the nines and sporting a hat. In her honor, we ask that each of you wear a hat of your choice to the funeral home or Mass.
Josephine leaves a loving daughter, Carolene Wittenauer; grandchildren Patrick Moore McRae (fiancé Lauren Salapatek), Matthew Edward McRae, Michael Maxwell McRae (fiancé Sarah Moore), and Michele Kathryn McRae; sisters Marian Gregson, Andrea Kern, and Mildred Mary Phillips; nieces, nephews; and cousins.
