Alice E. Mentel

Alice E. Mentel, nee Weidemann, 89 of Waterloo, IL died September 4, 2026 in Waterloo, Illinois. She was born on March 15, 1937 in New Athens, Illinois to Alvin & Esther Weidemann.

Alice is survived by daughters Laura A. (Charles) Miller, Susan E. (James) Prader, Patricia L. (James) Wittenauer, & Teresa M. (Jarrod) Fahey; grandchildren Abby Kohnz, Justine Hennrich (nee Fahey), Davin Kohnz, Kyle Prader, Jordan Fahey, Claire Fuqua (nee Wittenauer), Mitchell Kohnz, Lauren Snodgrass (nee Prader), & Lee Wittenauer; great grandchildren Belle Hennrich, Crosby Hennrich, Linus Hennrich, Ellie Fahey, Charlotte Kohnz, Jensen Kohnz, Wyatt Prader, and Wren Prader; great great grandchildren Sebastian Matheson, Draco Matheson and River Matheson.

Alice was one of thirteen children and is survived by siblings Joyce (Larry) Scace, Nadine Rowald, and Wayne Weidemann. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lee H. Mentel, son Stephen Lee Mentel, parents Alvin & Esther (nee Berthold) Weidemann; father-in-law & mother-in-law Lee J. & Magdalene K. (Helene) Mentel; sisters Myrtle Winter, Marie Richards, Hazel Studer, Gladys Parker, Doris Politsch; brothers Maurice Weidemann, Virgil Weidemann, Wesley Weidemann, Alvin Weidemann; sister-in-law Patricia Buncher and brother-in-law Roy Buncher.

Alice was married to Lee for 65 years and was a devoted mother, grandma and great grandma. She enjoyed her family deeply and was a kind and gentle soul. Alice loved to read, embroider, play cards and board games, and do puzzles.

Alice was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
