Bernadine L. "Bernie" Hoff, nee Kohler, 85, of Fenton, MO, formerly of Waterloo, IL, passed away October 13, 2025, in Ellisville, MO. She was born June 1, 1940, in Waterloo, IL.
Born and raised in Waterloo, Illinois, Bernie was the daughter of the late Hugo and Catherine (Wuertz) Kohler. She was a woman of Catholic faith, quick wit, and being generous to a fault. Known for her hardworking spirit, Bernie spent decades serving others as a waitress before retiring from the Waterloo Walmart in 2022—at the remarkable age of 82.
Bernie found joy in life’s simple pleasures: scenic fall drives, card games with family, puzzles and board games, baking pies and cookies, watching Fox news, a good Western (or the Kansas City Chiefs). She was happiest surrounded by family, laughter, and a deck of cards.
She is survived by her children: Robert (Teri) Hoff of Waterloo, IL; Curt (Christine) Hoff of Waterloo, IL; Jeanne (Jeff) Swaney of Chesterfield, MO; and Janine (Aaron) Brown of Fenton, MO.
Grandmother to Trisha (Nate), Kristi (Arron), Lindsey, Dalton, Jeffrey (Kriztia), Derrick (Hope), Samantha (Bailey), Erin, Aaron, and Andrew. Great-grandmother to Brandon, Nathan, Gage, Peyton, Brianna, Benedict, Isaac, Luca, Kaden, Lena, Rosie, and Allie.
Bernardine is preceded in death by her husband Robert Hoff Sr.; parents Hugo P. and Catherine M. Kohler (nee Wuertz); sisters Margaret Davis and Mary Bieber; and brothers Paul Kohler and Curt Kohler.
