Delmar A. Wachtel

Delmar A. Wachtel, 92, of Hecker, passed away September 24, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born September 6, 1931 in Hecker, IL; son of the late Hildagard (nee Grahlherr) and Joseph Wachtel. 

He is survived by his children Cathi (Brian) Schmieg and Janet Hayes; grandchildren Cody (Justin) Rohlfing, Autumn (Nate Ruebke) Gleich, Jonathon (Jess) Hayes, Tyler (Kayla) Hayes, and Matthew (fiance Molly Hutson) Hayes; great grandchildren Trey Rohlfing, Breck Rohlfing, Oaklee Ruebke, and Bo Ruebke; and cousins.

 Delmar was a graduate of Althoff High school and then enlisted in the Army. He worked at Scott Airforce Base until he retired. 

 Delmar was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Augustine of Canterbury in Hecker.  He was a loyal servant to the Lord and his Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Delmar was a lifelong (90 years) resident of Hecker, IL. 

 He married the love of his life, Wylma (nee Huntington), on November 23, 1979. They loved dancing and spent many vacations exploring the world. He fondly referred to her as Ms Pooey. They loved going out to eat and Delmar loved his cod plates on Fridays. 

 Delmar loved local and professional sports, but his all time favorites were the "Red Hot Redbirds;" aka the St. Louis Cardinals. Delmar was often reading about history and the Cardinals, and completing math problems for fun. He enjoyed riding his bike around town (til his late 80s), tinkering outside, playing Solitaire, and mowing the lawn (even when it didn't need it). 

 He enjoyed his time with his grandkids and loved to teach them about playing ball, how to use a yo-yo, and eating ice cream. 

 Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hildagard, and his beloved wife, Wylma.
