Elmer E. "Butch" Sparwasser Jr., 77, of Waterloo, Illinois, died May 17, 2026, in St. Louis, MO. He was born January 7, 1949, in Red Bud, IL.
He is survived by his wife Laurie Sparwasser nee Valerius; children Douglas Sparwasser, Christy (Justin) Osterhage, Jason (Karen) Valerius, Julie (Chad Everett) Valerius, and Jennifer (Scott) Johnson; grandchildren Ryland and Layden Sparwasser, Lillian and Samuel Osterhage, Kierstin Lipe (Bose Rajan), Nicholaus Valerius (Faizah Howard), Madalyn (Noah) Jost, Kyle Everett, PFC Oliver Valerius, and Henry Johnson; great grandchildren Louella Lipe and coming baby boy Bose; sisters Marlene (Richard) Buettner and Jean Wheat; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law James (Sherry) Valerius, Linda Hubbard, Jill (Tony) Schaefer, Greg Varel, and Bruce (Donita) Valerius; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents Elmer L. and Thelma R. T. (nee Stumpf) Sparwasser Sr.; sister Arline Hitzeman; and brother-in-law David Wheat; sister-in-law Jeanne Varel; and nephew Zachary Wheat.
Butch is the owner and organizer of Butch's Polka Kings, member of St. Paul UCC, life member VFW Post 6504, past (charter member) FFA Alumni member, past member of Waterloo Barbershoppers, past District 14 VFW Commander, past commander of Waterloo VFW Post 6504, past Dept. Rep. IL State of IL VFW, Road Commissioner for Road District #7, Manager of Cleary Buildings since 1989, Vietnam Veteran (Marine Corps),and Valmeyer American Legion Post #901.
