John C. "Jackie" Welsch

John C. "Jackie" Welsch, 75, of New Baden, Illinois, died May 24, 2016, in New Baden, IL. He was born May 2, 1941, in Waterloo, IL.

    He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Joe (Barbara) Welsch of Bettendorf, IA, Duanne Welsch of Claremont, CA, Janice Welsch of Macomb, IL, Kathleen Tourville and Ruth Koblenz of St. Louis, MO and Michael Welsch of Hecker, IL; nieces, nephews and cousins.  
    
    As the result of contracting encephalitis before he was three years old, Jackie became  developmentally disabled and had epilepsy.  He went to Dixon State Hospital in Dixon, IL at the age of eight and has resided in several other care facilities, the last years at Clinton Manor in New Baden.  He was proud of his jobs at sheltered workshops until his retirement; he then participated in the senior day program at Community Link in Breese.  Jackie enjoyed competing in various Special Olympic events over the years.  He loved to work jigsaw puzzles and was a puzzle master.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Alice (nee Wuertz) Welsch and a sister, Mary Catherine in infancy.

    10 AM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at SS Peter & Paul Church in Waterloo, IL
        Rev. Sebastian Ukoh, C.M. officiating
    Interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Madonnaville, IL
