Mildred R. Wuertz

February 22, 1921 — April 21, 2015

Mildred R. “Millie” Wuertz, nee Mallory, 94, of St. Louis, MO passed away peacefully at her home on April 21, 2015 in St. Louis, MO with her husband Herbert J. “Herb” Wuertz by her side. He provided constant and loving care when she became bedfast. She was fortunate to be pain free and was happy to spend her last days in her home. She was born February 22, 1921 in St. Louis, MO.

During her illness, numerous family members, friends and caring neighbors would stop by to chat and brighten her day. As a young girl, she spend many summers visiting her grandpa Melton’s farm in southeast Missouri. She had endless tales of fun and adventure on the farm which she happily shared with anyone who would listen. Millie never met a stranger, and if she did they would be fast friends within minutes.

As so many young women did during WWII, she married a Navy sailor. For 20 years she was an exemplary military wife, raising three children with grace and strength. Millie got through the hard times with her trademark sense of humor, turning “lemons into lemonade.” She taught her children that life was an adventure, and they should always let “a smile be their umbrella.”

After being widowed, she found a new love Herb Wuertz. They prospered and spent a long life together, traveling and visiting family. She especially loved spending time at their summer residence at Lake Gillespie, IL. Herb’s family “adopted” Millie and treated her with such love and kindness it filled her life with happiness and contentment. She returned their love and had a special place in her heart for each and every one.

She will be sadly missed by all.

Besides her husband she is survived by her children Jim (Esther) Clark, Judy (Richard) Weinberg, Carol (Dan) Adler, sisters-in-law Ruth Mallory, Rosalia Krewer, & Theresa Devine, nieces, nephews, & cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents the late William & Mildred (nee Melton) Mallory, her parents, 2 grandchildren, & brother Bill Mallory.

Visitation will be at Quernheim Funeral Home from 3 PM to 8 PM Thursday April 23, 2015 and from 9 AM until time of service Friday.

Funeral will be at 11 AM Friday April 24, 2015 at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo, IL with Pastor Jeanne Zimmermann officiating and burial will be at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery in Waterloo, IL.
