Robert Charles Steppig

Robert Charles "Chuck" Steppig, 69, of Waterloo, IL, died September 21, 2026, in Waterloo, IL. He was born June 24, 1957, in Belleville, IL.

Survived by his wife, Joann Steppig nee May, who he married on July 15, 1978 in Waterloo; children, Tera Cooke (Craig) of Ballwin MO, Nicholas Steppig (Mary-Elizabeth) of Monticello IL, and Christopher Steppig (Ed Northrup) of Chicago, IL. Grandchildren, Sophia Spencer of Ballwin MO, and Lucy Steppig of Monticello IL. Siblings, Kevin Steppig (Alison) of Waterloo, Beth Timmons (Randy) of Waterloo, Renee Gilbreth (Jerry) of Columbia and Janet Patton (Ed) of Waterloo. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Brother In law, Dan May (Ginger Greene) of Ft Lupton, CO, Sister In law, Lyn May of Waterloo and Donna Underwood (Dennis) of Monticello, IL.

Preceded in death by Parents, Robert L Steppig and Patricia A Steppig nee Dunham, Father in law, Vernon May, Mother in law, Shirley May nee Rodenberg, Brother in law David C May and Sister in law, Sandra L May. Maternal Grandparents Mr Robert Dunham and Mrs Virginia Dunham, Paternal Grandparents Mr Henry Steppig and Mrs Florence Steppig.

Chuck (as he was known) was a proud City of Waterloo Employee, he retired in 2022 with 30 years of service finishing as Foreman of the City Electric Department. He also was a 40 year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Local 309 showing support for the trades by marching every year (including 2026) since becoming a member. He enjoyed his work, and loved his family and friends. He never met a stranger, and was there to offer help to all in any situation. He put up a fierce battle against health issues for the last 10 years, but always with a positive outlook. He touched the lives of many along the way and felt richer for the journey.
