Wilbert Kohlmeier

Wilbert  Kohlmeier, 96, of Waterloo, IL, died November 4, 2020, in Waterloo, IL. He was born August 26, 1924, in Wartburg, IL.

He is survived by his children Ardis (Robert) Henerfauth of Waterloo, IL, Dean (Susan) Kohlmeier of Waterloo, IL, and Aron (Myrna) Kohlmeier of Houston TX; grandchildren Lindsey Kohlmeier of Houston TX; cousins Florence Lenhardt and Leona Klein of Waterloo, IL, and other cousins of Porta Westfalica; sisters-in-law Irene Wentzel and Christa Wolf; nieces; nephews.

Wilbert is preceded in death by his wife Vera L. Kohlmeier: parents Theodore and Sophia (nee Hohnbaum) Kohlmeier; sisters Lorena P. Lich and Audrey Hoffmann; brothers Raymond Kohlmeier, Fremond Kohlmeier, and Sylvester Kohlmeier.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church - Waterloo; Sister Cities of Portaloo; and 50 year member of Kaskaskia Trail Barbershop Chorus.
Attended the one room, grade school at Holy Cross Lutheran Church for 8 years. On his first day of school he didn’t speak a word of  English just German. Then walked from Wartburg to the Waterloo School every morning for one year.

He loved farming, taking family vacations, and he loved  to sing. He went to Germany 12 times and met some of his Kohlmeier cousins.

He taught his children to work hard, get enjoyment out of one's job, be respectful to others, and follow the golden rule. His family and friends were a treasure to him. He didn't complain much, frowned at gossiping, and always looked at the bright side. He loved a good clean story or joke. He was a happy guy full of joy, music, and laughter.

As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to:
Immanuel Lutheran Church
Sister Cities of Portaloo
Vera Kohlmeier Memorial Scholarship Fund
or Kaskaskia Trail Barbershop Chorus

Im gonna miss my barber shop pal. Joining in harmony in all of our music groups. You brought a light to our Alzheimers unit that will not be forgotten. Life is, such a business. Aye, aye, aye. I will have to get outside more, feel that fresh breeze you always enjoyed and think of you. Thank you for sharing your wisdom, joy, and humor with me. May we meet again with great joviality.

I remember your Dad, as a very nice and pleasant man. He never had a harsh word. Cherish your memories!

I was lucky enough to be able to care forWilbert when I worked at Rosedale House. Spending time with him was my privilege. Wilbert had a wonderful attitude towards life and was such a jolly person.
I know he is at home in heaven, cracking jokes and having the time of his life. God will take care of his every need and he will not ever lack for anything. God Bless Wilbert, you will be missed.
