William James Snyder, 78, of Waterloo, IL, died October 22, 2026, in St. Louis, MO. He was born June 18, 1948.
He is survived by daughter Ashley (Matt) Dietiker; stepsons Brian (Tanya) Kollack and David (Lori) Kollack; grandson Theodore Dietiker; other grandchildren; siblings Betty (Ferd) McBride, Suzanne (Jim) Hewitt, Dan (Sue) Snyder, and Mary (Kenneth) Hall; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
William is preceded in death by parents Joseph Snyder and step mother Shirley Snyder; Sonja Shaner nee Brunstermann; stepfather Tom Shaner; children Billy and Charity; siblings Melanie, Bonnie, and Joe.
He was a member of Waterloo VFW Post #6504 and a proud Vietnam War veteran. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He found happiness in the things he loved most. He was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Blues, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Denver Broncos. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams. He also found peace and satisfaction in taking care of his garden, nurturing it with the same patience and care he showed the people he loved. Music brought him special joy and comfort, singing along to “Strawberry Fields Forever” even in his last days.
As an accountant, he had a special way with numbers, and that love followed him well beyond his work. No conversation with him was complete without some kind of play on numbers, a clever calculation, or a little numerical twist. You could always count on him to work numbers into the conversation somehow. It was one of those little things that made him uniquely himself, and a memory that will forever bring a smile.
